Common questions

How does scoring work?

Your score runs from 0 to 100 and is based on how different your color and the target color look to the human eye (the CIELAB distance), not on how close the raw red, green and blue numbers are. A difference you can barely see earns close to 100, a wild guess earns almost nothing. Time does not change the score, it only limits each round to 30 seconds.

Why do I never get more than 80 or 90?

The level caps the score: Very Easy tops out at 80, Easy at 90 and Normal at 100. Easier levels give you fewer sliders to set, so a high score on Normal is worth more. The rules screen in the app spells this out.

What do "Perfect!" and "Spot-on hue!" mean?

"Perfect!" appears when your color is a very close match to the target. "Spot-on hue!" appears when the hue of your color is within 2 degrees of the target's hue, even if the brightness or saturation is still a bit off. You can get one, both or neither.

What is Go Turbo?

In Go Turbo the target color is shown for a moment and then hidden, so you have to rebuild it from memory instead of comparing the two side by side.

What happens when the time runs out?

Your current guess is sent automatically.

How do I see the leaderboards and achievements?

Tap the Game Center button on the main screen. You need to be signed in to Game Center on your iPhone or iPad. There is a daily leaderboard, an all-time leaderboard and 13 achievements. If you are not signed in, the game works the same, it just does not post scores.

My score or achievement does not show up in Game Center

Check that you are signed in to Game Center and that the device is online, then give it a moment, as Game Center can be slow to refresh. The perfect-match achievements need a score of 100, which is only possible on Normal.

How do I change the language?

Use the language button at the top right of the main screen. The app starts in your device's language automatically, when it is one of the supported ones: English, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Turkish. Klingon (tlhIngan Hol) is in the same menu as TLH, but it is never picked automatically. When Klingon is selected, only the titles of the studies linked in the Brain section stay in English.

How do I clear my history?

Open the History screen and tap Clear History. Your round history is stored only on your device, so deleting the app also removes it.

What does the app need to run?

An iPhone or iPad with iOS 15 or later. The game needs no internet connection. The banner ad and Game Center do.

Are there ads or extra purchases?

Color Glimpse is free. It shows one small banner ad at the bottom, served by Google AdMob, and there are no pop-ups or video ads between rounds. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription.

Why does iOS ask whether the app may track me?

Because of the banner ad. The question is about whether Google may use your device's advertising identifier to personalise ads. You can say no and the game works exactly the same. You can change your answer later in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security > Tracking. Details are in the privacy policy.

Is it suitable for children?

Color Glimpse is a general-audience game and it shows a banner ad from Google AdMob. It has no chat and no user-generated content.

The more of this you can include, the faster it gets fixed:
